Thiess has secured an AU$150 million contract extension with BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA) Caval Ridge coal mine in the Bowen Basin.
After commencing work at Caval Ridge, the contract extension will see Thiess mine additional overburden until 2020.
The CIMIC Group Limited Company will continue to provide mining services for specific components of work including services for the Caval Ridge Southern Circuit (CRSC).
The CRSC is an 11-kilometre overland conveyor system which will transport coal from Peak Downs Mine to the Coal Handling Preparation Plant at the Caval Ridge Mine.
BHP estimates that the construction of the CRSC has the potential to create up to 400 new construction jobs and lock in approximately 200 ongoing operational roles.
