CIMIC Group’s global mining services provider, Thiess, has been awarded a contract extension by Jellinbah Group Pty Ltd to continue to provide mining services at its Lake Vermont Coal Mine in Queensland.
The five-year contract extension will generate venue of A$2.5 billion for Thiess.
The contract continues Thiess’ full-service mining operations including mine planning, coal mining, topsoil and overburden removal, drill and blast, water management and rehabilitation of final landforms.
This includes providing all mobile plant and equipment, being statutory operator for the project, and operating and maintaining the client’s Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP).
Thiess will also provide a range of autonomous services at the mine, including the implementation of autonomous drilling and semi-autonomous dozer push.
CIMIC Group Executive Mining and Mineral Processing and Thiess Managing Director, Douglas Thompson, said since commencing work at Lake Vermont in 2007 a strong working relationship has been developed.

The contract extension will commence from 1 January 2022.
About the Lake Vermont Coal Mine
Lake Vermont is located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, approximately 15 kilometres North-East of Dysart and 165 kilometres South-West of Mackay.
The mine is an open cut operation, with overburden drilling and blasting followed by conventional removal with truck and shovel and dozer push.
Lake Vermont produces hard coking coal, low volatile PCI coal and thermal coal.
The mine infrastructure was expanded in 2012/13. It has a production capacity of 9 Million tonnes per annum.
Jellinbah Group has a 70 per cent interest in the mine, with Marubeni Coal, Sojitz Coal and AMCI each holding 10 per cent interests.
