NRW Holdings’ wholly-owned subsidiary, NRW Civil & Mining, has landed a mining contract for the Roper Bar Iron Ore Project for Nathan River Resources (NRR).
The Roper Bar Iron Ore Project is positioned in the Northern Territory of Australia and has a fully integrated ‘pit-to-port’ logistics chain including a privately owned 171 kilometre paved access road to an exiting barge load-out facility and product stockyard.
The project was commissioned in October last year with first Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) exports occurring in November.
According to NRW Holdings, production ramp-up is nearing completion, with four vessels now completed (approx. 220 kilotonnes).
An offtake agreement exists with Glencore and NRR for the marketing and distribution of iron ore from the Roper Bar project.
The mining contract award, announced on 29 January 2021, covers the Stage 1 operations at Roper Bar, with production of 4.6 million tonnes of DSO and 1 million tonnes of Sense Media Separation (DMS) production at 1.5-1.8 million tonnes per annum over three years.
The scope of the contract includes drill and blast, load and haul, clearing and grubbing, top-soil and subsoil removal and the rehandling of ore stockpiles.
The contract value is circa $123 million and has a duration of 33 months. NRW forecasts that at peak, there will be approximately 55 site-based personnel on the project.
