The NSW Government has approved the granting of two coal mining leases to Kores Australia Pty Ltd under the Mining Act 1992 for the Wallarah 2 Coal Project, north of Wyong.
The Independent Planning Commission granted development consent for this State Significant Development (SSD) on 16 January 2018.
The Wallarah 2 Coal Project received approval under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 on 18 January 2019.
The project involves a capital investment of over $800 million and will create more than 1,700 direct and indirect jobs. Over its 28-year lifespan, the Wallarah 2 Project will deliver approximately $830 million in royalties to the NSW Government.
This project has undergone a rigorous and exhaustive assessment process at both State and Federal levels, including a detailed environmental impact assessment and extensive public consultation.
In granting the mining leases, conditions have been implemented to prevent and minimise environmental impacts, and to ensure monitoring, reporting and ongoing environmental management.
