The Clough Elecnor joint venture, SecureEnergy, has been selected for an approximate AU$1.5 billion contract for TransGrid’s Project EnergyConnect.
ElectraNet and TransGrid are partnering to deliver an energy interconnector between the power grids of South Australia (starting at Robertstown) and New South Wales (finishing in Wagga Wagga) with an added connection to Victoria (Red Cliffs).
Secure Energy is a 50/50 integrated joint venture between Clough and Elecnor, and will deliver the engineering, procurement and construction of TransGrid’s portion of the project, which includes four substations and approximately 700 kilometres of 330 kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
The Project has been strongly supported by the New South Wales Government which has declared it as Critical State Significant Infrastructure.
Project EnergyConnect is a key element of the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) 2020 Integrated System Plan that provides an integrated roadmap for the efficient development of the National Electricity Market over the next 20 years and beyond.
Completion of the project is expected by 2024-25.
