Resource logistics provider Bis has retained the contract to provide load and haul services for Glencore Australia at the Newlands Coal Mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

The contract will see Bis extend the partnership with Glencore by supporting the Newlands operations until 2021, which aligns with Bis’ optimised high payload dual powered road train technology to Glencore’s production requirements.

The company has provided a range of load and haul, underground equipment hire and site services to support the Newlands Coal mine for the past 22 years. The Newlands Coal Project includes an open cut and longwall mining operation, producing steaming coal and coking coal for export markets through the Abbot Point Bulk Coal export terminal.

Commenting on the contract award, Glencore Operations Manager – Newlands, Paul Sear, said that Glencore has enjoyed a positive, long-term partnership with Bis.

“Bis’ strong commitment to delivering safe and innovative solutions that add value to our operation has been recognised in this contract renewal, and we look forward to continuing our successful relationship with the team,” he said on Monday.

Bis Chief Executive Officer Brad Rogers also welcomed the contract award, stating that Bis is ‘very pleased to announce this extension’, which is an important long-term contract for them.

“We are proud to have been part of the Newlands operations since 1998, working in collaboration with the Glencore team to deliver tangible efficiency and productivity benefits,” Mr Rogers commented.
