Graphex® gloves – a perfect fit for the mining industry
Graphene is certainly the global buzzword when it comes to new technological advancements…
Graphene was first created in a lab in 2004 by Geim & Novoselov at the University of Manchester in the UK and is an allotrope of carbon – represented as a one-atom-thick hexagonal lattice structure in which one atom forms each vertex.
This newly discovered material is a unique structure in that proportionally it is about 100 times stronger than steel and harder than diamond, it can conduct heat and electricity very efficiently yet is almost transparent.
Amongst other things Graphene is also the first two-dimensional material ever discovered and recent scientific advancements have allowed for its extraction and commercial production.
Many people had hypothesised and witnessed the existence of this carbon allotrope under a microscope since 1962.
Actually, isolating a single sheet was considered nearly impossible until 2004 when Geim and Novoselov were able to do so, by extracting it using a piece of Scotch Tape.
The commercial production and isolation of the hexagonal lattice didn’t come until a few years later.
Through nanotechnology, Graphene has now been able to be incorporated into the manufacture of cut-resistant yarns and various other industries across the globe.
By incorporating this innovative material in the production of its yarns Private Brands has been able to exploit the properties of this carbon allotrope resulting in the market-leading cut resistant yarn named Graphex®.
This revolutionary Graphex® yarn offers the highest level of cut protection, exceeding level F under the new European Standards for hand protection EN388:2016 and Level 5 under Australian Standard AS/NZS2161.3, whilst enabling excellent levels of dexterity and wearer comfort; a feat that has not been able to be achieved by other yarns.
The entire range is also touch screen friendly, achieves REACH Compliance ensuring skin health and is UPF50+ offering maximum sun protection for the wearer.
The unique chemical structure of Graphene has enabled the gloves to also reach Contact Heat Level 1 & 2 providing additional protection to the wearer who needs to handle hot objects.
The Graphex® Precision, Premier, PremierEXT, Armour and LQR styles are all made with Private Brands new proprietary Graphex® yarn and are all Certified to both European and Australian Standards.
The range offers a solution from high dexterity requirements through to maximum cut resistance, back of hand protection and even liquid barrier protection.
There is a Graphex® glove for any cut-resistant requirement.
Graphex® gloves are now being worn in mining, construction, tunnelling and offshore operations, just to name a few industries that have recognised the advantages Graphex® gloves offer the wearer.
Indeed, the Cut Level F rated series not only bare the highest cut rating available but are also the thinnest and lightest Cut Level F gloves in the world today.
This exceptional combination allows the wearer to perform the most intricate tasks wherever necessary without sacrificing safety.
Historically there have been very few gloves that meet this cut resistance level and none that offer the wearer such comfort and dexterity.
Each Graphex® glove in the series has its own unique feature(s)-
The GFPR500 Premier is palm dipped with it’s Active Grip Technology coating providing a balanced all-round grip that performs well in wet, dry and oily applications and provides 360-degree Cut Level F protection.
The GFPR501 PremierEXT offers Cut Level F forearm protection also, by having an extended cuff. This glove is being used extensively for glazing and sheet metal applications.
The GFPR502 Armour incorporates TPR impact protection on the back of the hand and padding in the palm to reduce vibrations. Its Velcro closure further ensures a positive fit. This glove is perfect for heavy-duty tasks often associated with mine, rigging and offshore work. Armour in name and in practice.
The 360-degree liquid barrier ensures that wearers of the GFPR504 LQR keep their hands clean and dry from liquid hazards. The perfect glove for handling oils and working with liquid chemicals or in wet conditions.
When the risk of cuts is still possible, but the application requires the highest levels of tactility then the GFPR400 Precision is the preferred choice. Perfectly suited to assembly work, mechanical operations, warehousing and fine blade handling, the Precision is currently the only Cut Level D glove in the Graphex® line up.
Whatever the industry or application Graphex® gloves offer world-leading levels of mechanical safety with industry-first innovation. All performance levels and claims are rigorously scrutinised and certified by an independent Notifying Body – BSI Benchmark to the very latest Australian and European Standards, and are in accordance with the new EU Regulation PPE 2016/425.
This certification ensures peace of mind or all stakeholders – from the distributor to the employer, and most importantly to the employee, the wearer of the gloves.
By wearing Graphex® gloves you are wearing the safest, highest cut resistant gloves available today, with levels of dexterity and fit that allow the work at hand to be done efficiently and in comfort.
