A new Smart Energy Training Centre aimed at upskilling workers for South Australia’s renewables boom was recently launched. The training centre is part of a nation-wide project to provide workers with the skills and training they need to take advantage of Australia’s rapidly expanding solar, energy storage, and smart energy industry.
John Grimes, CEO of the Australian Solar Council said South Australia is upgrading to smart energy and there is an increasing demand for high-tech skills in energy storage and energy management. Over 4500 jobs are being created, and we need a skilled workforce who can fill those roles.
“The Smart Energy Training Centre is an industry first collaboration between the Australian Solar Council, the Energy Storage Council, and registered training organisations,” he said.
“South Australia is a smart energy leader, and we need our workers to have access to cutting edge training and technology in the renewables sector. Skills and training will help drive innovation and keep South Australia ahead of the game in industry, commercial, and consumer markets.”
Mr Grimes said workers need to have the best and most comprehensive knowledge of new products and equipment. At the Smart Energy Training Centre, students will have access to the latest state-of-the-art technologies from leading Australian and international brands.
“The Smart Energy Training Centre will provide a range of flexible accredited and professional development courses, and will provide workers with the skills they need to become part of Australia’s growing renewables industry. The centre will support all parts of the value chain – from manufacturers and designers, to retailers and installers.”
Renewables are delivering great results for South Australian jobs and the economy. Estimated investment for proposed renewable projects is over $9 billion, and thousands of jobs are being created.
“South Australia is at the forefront of smart energy, and now we will have access to the skills and training to keep us there,” Mr Grimes said.
