The Australia Africa Minerals & Energy Group (AAMEG) today announced its nominees for the 2020 AAMEG Africa Awards – which recognise leadership in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices by Australian explorers, miners and industry service organisations working in Africa.
Among a competitive field of entrants, eight Australian companies have been shortlisted across the award categories of Best Innovation in Corporate Social Development, Best Workplace and People Development Initiative and the inaugural Emerging ESG Leader Award, sponsored by the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA).
AAMEG CEO, Bill Witham, said they were thrilled with the quality of the entrants for the second annual AAMEG Africa Awards.
“Our nominees are setting the standard for innovation in sustainable and ethical mining practices, with long-term strategies that will deliver tangible benefits across education, employment and healthcare,” Mr Witham said.
“Despite the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, it’s heartening to see the Australian minerals and energy sector in Africa remain absolutely committed to fostering better socio-economic outcomes for their host communities, in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals.”
