Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan has commended the winners of the 2018 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards.
This year’s awards were held at the Hyatt Hotel in Perth on October 18, where people from 28 outstanding businesses and a range of different industries gathered to share in an evening of celebration.
In the WA Industry Awards category, AVI was awarded the C.Y. O’Connor Award for Excellence in Engineering and Technology. The company develops and builds specialised industrial computers, routers and switches that provide wireless communications and interoperability for vehicles and personnel across air, land and sea. The products are customised for military, mining and oil and gas industry applications, all of which require trusted operational performance in hostile environments.
The winner of the the Minerals, Energy and Related Services category, Como Engineers (a privately-owned engineering and construction company who services the mining process industry) will receive a three-month co-working membership with CORE, along with a scholarship to attend a CORE skills course next year.
In welcoming them to the CORE community, Tamryn Barker CEO of CORE said that Como Engineers has become a recognised specialist in the design and construction of modular mining process plants that can be containerised and shipped anywhere in the world.
“Como Engineers is an excellent example of how an Australian company can develop, manufacture and export high-value technology products. They have used the State’s strengths in mining to develop their technology and we are particularly impressed with their investment in research and development and their commitment to continuing to base operations from Perth.”
Blue Ocean Monitoring, a global marine survey company who offers survey solutions to offshore industries across the globe was also presented the Environmental Solutions Award at the event.
Moving forward, the export category award winners will represent Western Australia at the 56th Australian Export Awards, to be held in November 2018, in Canberra.
Mr McGowan said that all of the winners in the WA Industry and Export Awards have built successful businesses and have helped support employment in Western Australia.
“For the export category winners that go on to represent the State at the national awards, I wish them all the best, he said, “win or lose, these businesses have done Western Australia proud,” he commented.
