CORE Resources Innovation Hub has been launched in the Perth CBD, a new co-working, collaboration and innovation hub focused on resources technologies.
Tamryn Barker, CORE CEO shared how CORE is invigorating a global vision for Australia in resources technology and innovation, focused on the value being delivered by disruptive technologies such as predictive analytics, automation of knowledge work, autonomous vehicles, robotics, additive manufacturing, cloud and mobile technologies, to solve the sector’s most critical challenges.
“Australia is already a global resources hub, but we risk losing the immense opportunities from digital technologies if we don’t drive commercialisation of this capability into the sector. With our industry innovation partners, through Unearthed our resident accelerator, and integrated within Perth’s largest co-working and entrepreneur space powered by Spacecubed, CORE provides an environment that creates these connections. This is part of aligning a vision for Australia with our strengths, and pursuing a strategy where we dominate resources technology as a globally disruptive domain.
“Our vision for CORE is where the resources and energy sector powers the human enterprises of tomorrow. We are delighted that the response across industry, and from our Foundation Partners, to participate in shaping this future has been so strong. We are also excited about connecting with other global mining hubs such as Houston and Santiago to as part of this vision.”
The Hon. Bill Marmion, Minister for State Development, Transport and Innovation acknowledged the CORE industry partnership and noted that greater collaboration and open innovation goes hand in hand with realising the vision for Perth as a global resources technology hub.
CORE opened at the end of July and, in addition to the Foundation Partners NERA, METS Ignited, Austmine, WesTrac, Unearthed and Spacecubed who have innovation teams in the space, has an increasing number of industry partners from across mining and oil and gas, including industry bodies Engineers Australia and Subsea Energy Australia.
NERA and METS Ignited are two of the six national Industry Growth Centres, established to focus on sectors of strategic importance to Australia. NERA is tasked with maximising value from Australia’s energy resources, while METS Ignited has the objective of growing the global footprint of the Australian Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector. CORE provides a CBD base for both to connect along the value chain and engage directly with resources sector focused innovators.
